Phillip Katz is an award-winning designer and developer and the founder of Phillip Katz Project Development LLC (PKPD) a design and development practice.

Phillip Katz is the founder and principal of Phillip Katz Project Development LLC (PKPD) a design and management practice.  He is an awarding-winning designer and project manager and was part of the design team involved in creating the Calatrava addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum,  Santiago Calatrava's first commission in North America.

Among his accomplishments, he was part of the design team involved in creating the Calatrava addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum, Santiago Calatrava’s first commission in North America.  He was  awarded the “Most Environmentally Friendly Project” from the Business Journal of Milwaukee for his renovation of AB Data’s corporate headquarters, the former Manpower World Headquarters.

Katz previously received two Mayor’s Urban Design Awards for entertainment and education projects in the City of Milwaukee. Katz and development partner, Williams Development, received a “Renovation of the Year” Award from the Business Journal for design and development of a formerly blighted property for Lad Lake, a school for at risk youth in Milwaukee’s central city. He was also awarded a Brownfield Grant from Wisconsin’s Commerce Dept. for the complete environmental remediation of the site. Katz has earned numerous awards for residential design and has been published in several Home Design magazines. He has also been listed among “Top 100 Milwaukeeans to Know.”

Katz is a recipient of the ‘Forty Under Forty Award’ from the Milwaukee Business Journal. In 2012 Katz earned the ‘Benjamin Nickolls Award’ from the Milwaukee Jewish Federation recognizing his volunteer and philanthropic commitment to leadership within the community.

Known for his expertise in sacred spaces and liturgical architecture, Katz has led artist and architect in-residence workshops, and has lectured on liturgical architecture, sanctuary technology, and Jewish sacred space for the Wisconsin Society for Jewish Learning, the Jewish Community Center, the Coalition for Jewish Learning, the Union for Reform Judaism, and the Marquette University real estate mentorship program (ACRE).

Actively involved in community initiatives, Katz serves on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Milwaukee (JCC), the Milwaukee Jewish Federation (MJF), The Wisconsin Society for Jewish Learning, and Business Improvement District #32. He’s served on building and planning committees for various institutions, including the Urban Ecology Center;, JCC, MJF, and The Jewish Home and Care Center. Katz is also a member of the President’s Council of Milwaukee’s Children’s Hospital and is a founding member of the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance.

Katz received his Master of Architecture from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee-School of Architecture and Urban Planning, where he graduated at the top of his class. He has a Baccalaureate in Landscape Design with honors from the College of Santa Fe. Katz studied Architecture at the Ecole Spe’ciale d’Architecture which included field study in Paris, Rome, Florence, and Venice. He also attended The Oxford Brooks University in Oxford, England, where he focused on Urban Planning.

Katz has served in the executive level as; Corporate Director of Real Estate, Director of Facilities, and Chief Executive Officer for organizations in the; hospitality, industrial, multifamily, and elderly housing sectors. 

Awarded for outstanding service seven years in a row to the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), Katz also teaches architectural design, construction, engineering, and history at the UW-Milwaukee School of Architecture and Urban Planning.
