ATLANTIC CITY BOARDWALK
HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL
Atlantic City, New Jersey
The memorial is a place that allows us the time and space to reflect on the human condition and the unspeakable and unknowable nature of the Holocaust.
There is a universal language common to all regardless of race or religion that allows the reflection and celebration of those things common to all humanity.
The monolith is the interface and references the common memory of the Western Wall in the history and tradition of the Jewish people. The Jewish tradition of a visitor placing a stone on a gravestone is reconceptualized here through the use of technology and light, the visitor has the opportunity to represent their respects. In this case the ethereal-‘light’ is the result, and is the media used in lieu of earthbound-‘stone’.
